Our history

About MA Mission Blackburn

A distinguished, globally recognised organisation bearing the name of one of the eminent Sufi scholars and saints of recent times.

The Mohaddis-e-Azam Mission bears the name of Mohaddis-e-Azam Hind — Allama Pir Syed Shah Muhammad Abul Muhamid Ashrafi al-Jilani, born 1894 CE.

The Mission was initiated in the latter part of the 20th century by Mohaddis-e-Azam's son and appointed spiritual successor, the eminent and globally renowned Imam-e-Humam 'Huzur Shaykh-ul-Islam' Syed Mohammad Madni Ashrafi al-Jilani, who has blessed the Mission with regular visits to the UK since the early 1970s.

The inaugural UK branch was established in the North-West town of Blackburn, Lancashire, during the 1990s. Since then, Alhamdulillah, the Mission has flourished, steadily expanding its reach and influence.

Named in honour of a scholar and gnostic who dedicated his life to educating and uplifting people, the Mission continues his legacy. Under the leadership of S M Madani Miya, it has expanded globally — including seven branches in the UK, all dedicated to serving their local communities.

Encapsulated in the Urdu phrase Kaum ki Khidmat — to educate the community and serve humanity.

Through the years

  1. 1894

    Birth of Mohaddis-e-Azam Hind, Allama Pir Syed Shah Muhammad Abul Muhamid Ashrafi al-Jilani.

  2. 1970s

    Huzur Shaykh-ul-Islam Syed Mohammad Madni Ashrafi al-Jilani begins regular visits to the UK.

  3. 1990s

    The inaugural UK branch of the Mission is established in Blackburn, Lancashire.

  4. Today

    Seven UK branches and many more worldwide, each serving its local community.

Enriching lives at the Mission

  • Daily Madrasah and Hifz classes teaching the Qur'an and Tajweed, duas and surahs, the Seerah and Islamic studies.

  • Congregational prayers, including Friday Jummah, for spiritual guidance and community bonding.

  • Regular gatherings featuring esteemed guest speakers from around the world.

  • Community events such as bake sales and charity activities promoting social cohesion.

  • A community hall available for weddings, religious gatherings and social events.
